The story of the Fairy Poodle....

I suppose some of you are wondering why I have a cross between a fantasy creature and a big fluffy dog in pictures on my blog, and why he commands you to comment on my posts, and vote on my polls.

Well it all goes back to when Shannon and I first discovered Evanescence. We listened to their first album 'Fallen', and we were hooked. The second-to-last track on 'Fallen' is a song called 'Whisper'.
And after the first chorus after the bridge, a ghostly choir starts chanting "Servatis a Periculum, Servatis a Maleficum" (which means 'save us from danger, save us from evil' in latin, by the way.)
Up until recently, we had no idea what the choir was saying. Shannon thought it sounded like "do not eat the fairy poodle," so after a while, I looked up some pictures online, found a picture of a poodle and a picture of fairy wings, photoshopped them together, and viola!
One Fairy poodle!

Well, anyway, that's all for now. I have more essays to crack down on and a math quiz to study for.
Until next time,

The state of my life as of now...

I'm so bummed.
I had a video I was going to post, but I'm not going to be able to film it until next week. Blah....

But on the bright side, The Bruiser is now ten years old! His birthday was yesterday, and, let me tell you, I thouroughly enjoyed it, not because of any crazy party or anything (we don't really have birthday parties anymore), but because it was a day off from school! The only thing was, I spent the entire day on the computer writing an essay. But at least it's almost done!

I bought a book a few days ago! It's called "Singing for Dummies"!
........
Yes I know it's kind of wierd. But I really don't have the money or the time for voice lessons right now, so I figured that's the best thing I can do. It starts with the basics, though. The basic basics. Like, don't-have-a-clue-how-to-sing basics. Like singing on pitch, matching pitch, and stuff like that. I already know how to do that. I'm not that much of a dummy. I also somewhat know how to project my voice. I got the book so I could learn how to, you know, create vibrato, extend my head-voice range, etc.

OH MY GOSH!
I read on wikipedia that one of the songs on Nightwish's new album "Imaginarium" is going to be almost twenty minutes long! Totally epic, right? Their longest song so far is "The Poet and the Pendulum", which is exactly 13:54! Totally awesome!

I haven't been able to write any of my novel for a while now because of all the homework. Sniff.....

We watched the Grammys on Sunday night! Bananna and I had a blast watching live performances, and laughing at all of the celebrities (ha ha... Selena Gomez... Grammy wimmers....Lol)!
Oh, and lastly....
THIS SONG IS AMAZING!!! It's one of the three songs that put me in my "happy place", the other two being Loser by Beck, and Freak On A Leash by Korn.
Here it is!

L to the O to the L, right?
Well anyway, I have to get back to my homework.
Until next time,

My Valentines day

I know it's kinda late for a valentines day post, but my valentines day was just a tad bit crazy. Here's how it played out:
6:00 A.M. Woke up to "Bye Bye Beautiful" by Nightwish blasting on my speakers.
6:30 A.M. Left for college.
7:00 A.M. Started my English class.
8:00 A.M. Started my Math class.
9:00 A.M. Hung out at the library and switched between doing homework, studying, and people-watching for two hours.
11:00 A.M. Ate lunch.
12:00 P.M. Took music class.
1:30 P.M. Took the bus home.
2:30 P.M. Walked in the door, and was immediately informed that I had to leave for work in half an hour.
4:00 P.M. Got to work. Knew niether the students, nor the lesson plan. Two new white belts in class. I kinda fudged the class.
4:30 P.M. Taught the older kids. Knew none of them. Knew a little bit of the lesson plan. One new white belt. One disruptive kid. Fudged it. I could swear one of the parents was glaring at me a little bit.
5:15 P.M. Intermediate older kids. Still did not know them or the lesson plan.
6:00 P.M. Taught CDF (Cardio, Defence, Fitness). Knew what the students wanted. Got to blast metal through the room while I put them (and myself) through grueling workouts. Lots of fun!
8:00 P.M. Classes are over. Vaccumed the floor.
9:00 P.M. Was driven home by one of the instructers.
9:30 P.M. Got home. Ate steak, chips, fries.
10:00 P.M. Went to bed.
So there you have it. My crazy valentines day!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while!

Valentines day tomorrow....

Well, it's almost here. Valentines day....
You can tell I'm not particularly excited about it.
The reason being that I'd much rather shoot myself than find a girlfriend right now.
The reason behind that is long and complicated, and I'd much rather shoot myself than go into detail.
BUT HAVING SAID THAT.....
I was fortunate enough to learn the true meaning of valentines day last year!
The story goes like this....

Well, with all the comercialism and everything, I was lost as to what valentines day actually meant. I didn't have a girlfriend back then, so the romantic aspect didn't mean anything at all. But what else was there?
The answer came later that day. I was helping out with one of the classes at karate when suddenly, out of nowhere, a random kid walked up to me, handed me a lollipop, smiled, and wished me a happy valentines day. It was then that it hit me; it wasn't about romance, or pink and red hearts, or anything like that!
It was about giving candy to complete strangers, and getting candy from complete strangers!
What a wonderful experience!
So now I realize the true meaning of valentines day!
Awesome, right?
Anyway, I'm going to be putting a valentines poll up, so please vote!
That's all folks!

PS. Sorry about the wickedly depressing awesome song of the day....

Music Class

20th century music has to be one of the best classes that I'm taking this symester. It's pretty simple really. We read about the composers, we listen to their works, we write papers on them. Sadly, I'm one of the only people who likes the class. One of the kids said that he just took it because he thought it would be an easy credit. Riiiigghhht.
By the way, has your grandmother (or any other older person in your life) ever said this to you:
"I can't believe the junk that's on the radio!"
"Why would anyone write a song about THAT? That's awful!"
"They don't ever play real music anymore!"
Well, for twentieth century music, I'm supposed to write a paper on "Rite of Spring" by Stravinsky.
Now when we think of spring, we tend to think of flowers, birds chirping, leaves growing on trees, new plants, and essentially, life. But do any of you, when you think of spring, think of appeasing the gods by performing a ritual with pounding drums, haunting flutes, and a young maiden who dances until she is so exhausted that she dies, to ensure a successful year and a bountiful harvest? Stravinski did. That's pretty crazy stuff to write a song about in my opinion.
And don't even get me started on the subject matter of Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of the Faun".
Well, anyway, the Finnish band Nightwish is coming out with a new album soon, so I'm really excited.
Oddly enough, they're also coming out with a movie based on the new album (which is titled "Imaginarium", by the way).
I'm also really ticked with Evanescence because they were supposed to come out with a new album during late August/early September 2010. But they stepped out of the studio in June and haven't come back yet to finish recording.
OH, AND ONE MORE THING.....
We're extremely close to setting up band practices for our four-person band!
We still need a drummer and a bassist, but we should be able to at least write a few songs together.
This is our lineup so far
Josh: Rhythm Guitar
Banana: Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals
Shan: Piano, Keyboard, Vocals
Me: Piano, Keyboard, Vocals
Well, that's it for now-
Oh wait! If any of you want to write sheet music on the computer and can't find the program to do it, click this link: Free (and safe) sheet music program

Linkin Park was on Saturday Night Live! Wahoo!

Guess what!
...well you probably already know what, given that the title screamed it pretty loudly.
But it was pretty cool. I didn't stay up until 11:30 saturday when they were on, because I felt like actually being able to get up for Church in the morning, considering that I sing in the choir, but I looked it up on youtube the day after. Here it is.
"When they come for me" is a wicked cool song, and in this version, the guys censored all the swears!
Oh, and here's the other one they performed.

Well, the Grammys are next week. We're probably not going to be watching them on the night that they are aired, because they go until 11:30, and I have to get up at 6:00 the next morning for college. Six hours of sleep doth not bode well with me. We're probably going to record them and then watch them the saturday after. We're also thinking that we're going to make a huge deal out of it. You know, like a superbowl party, except with the Grammys instead. Yeah, I sound kind of crazy, but any excuse to bake up lots of junky snack food and eat it is cool with me.
And speaking of cool, check out this video of this awesome song! And more importantly, check out Ben Moody (the bald guitarist). That dude looks like he's having a blast!
I know I've posted alot of videos here, but I can't help it if I'm obsessed with music.
Well, that's all folks!
Until next time,

Cramer's rule, a band, tests, and papers....

Well, there goes another week. This homework thing is really starting to bug me. I mean, I have two papers due, and two tests to look forward to next week. Sigh.... Oh well. At least I'm learning cool stuff. I am officially in love with Cramer's rule. It's the easiest way to solve systems of equations, even if it does take a bit longer to do out than the addition method.
I hate the adition method (all you algebra geeks out there know what I'm talking about).
I always end up botching up something elementary, oh and, just so you all know, -1 times -5 does not equal 1, thank you very much.
But I just about always get the answer right when I use Cramer's rule, so I can't understand why I can't do that every time.
But enough about math.
Oh, I forgot to tell you all, Banana and I are starting a band!
We're probably going to do symphonic metal, because that's what I'm writing right now. I've written almost an entire piano accompaniment for one song, but then, the lyrics won't work out for me, so I'm kinda bummed. I'm probably going to start over from scratch.
And speaking of lyrics, I just wrote some for a new song a couple days ago. Nothing particularly special, considering that a lot of people write lyrics. But what's special about it is that I actually like them! This coming from a die-hard perfectionist, who almost never likes his work.
Oh, and, as of today, we have a second guitarist for our band! He's probably going to be doing rhythm guitar, while Banana does lead. We don't have a drummer yet or a bassist, but we do have two guitarists and two pianist/vocalists (I'm one of them!), so that's a start.
And I also want to start a mini orchestra and maybe even a choir! Real instruments sound so much nicer that those cruddy synthesized ones.  You can totally tell when the instruments are fake (especially if you're an absolute music junkie like I am).
And a choir can sound so haunting and creepy....
Maybe I'll post some of the lyrics when they're done (judging by my die-hard perfectionism, that won't be for a while)!
I'll definitely post some of our songs if we manage to record them.
Wow. That was a long post. But anyway, I'm very glad that the weekend's here.
Oh, and one more thing: if you want something epic, and I don't mean somewhat epic, I mean really, really epic (and square), click this link below.
